A more advanced way of gardening is through a process called hydroponics - which uses water instead of soil to produce our crops. This process not only produces our crops at an accelerated rate, but also has no need for pesticides. I mean, who wants to willingly ingest chemicals, right?!
This is what most people think of whenever they think of gardening. Traditional gardening methods are labor intensive, use traditional equipment, water, fuel and requires a great deal of manpower.
We have scaled this dimension of our program to be both efficient and productive, with raised beds that are easily accessible by our volunteers.
This is the BIG ONE! Aquaponics harmoniously combines raising fish with growing plants in water. Ingenious! Essentially, we use the fish's waste to provide nutrients to our crops, which is then filtered by the plants to provide clean water back to the fish. This process produces a natural cycle that is both minimal labor and requires very minimal land.
